If I were a rich man… I’d build my own indoor sport centre!

Sometimes I just think about my life and laugh!  I mean who can ‘afford’ to create their own indoor sporting complex.  But thanks to couple small donations (from other expat missionaries) and money made from the biodiesel enterprise, we’ve been able to convert one of the now dormant mushroom growing rooms into a our very own 28 x 6 metre indoor cricket room!

Our Kiwi and Aussie friends have given the thumbs up.  After we put some extra lighting in and carpet the bowlers end the room will be just about perfect.

The really cool thing is that the young guys from the church (and the biodiesel enterprise) are turning up constantly to play cricket and indoor soccer.  Lord willing, the facility will become an effective extention of our relationship building and discipleship efforts.   We’ve already developed a habit of having a cuppa and snacks between sessions.  I really enjoy being with the boys and sharing knowledge in this sort of informal setting.

Mark and Matthew are also getting in on the act. We’re spending quality father-sons time together and doing something physical together.

Normally, I don’t look forward to winter much, especially at the warehouse. Winter is a dreary energy draining time.  But this year we have the heating running already and we can come and have a bash any time we want.  There is definitely something very gratifying in releasing some of the built up tensions through smashing a cricket ball.  This year I’m entering winter with a smile. :)

Hi Wayne & Olya! Fantastic about the biodiesel! A really great way to offer good training and a good product to Ukrainians! Since 2006, Peter and I have been running 1985 mercedes wagons here in Canada, 300TDs with 5 cylinder engines, and have been collecting used vegee oil, filtering it to 5 microns, and pouring it straight into the tank! Because this engine was classically “over engineered”, the fuel pump can handle the increased viscosity. I’m sure that there must be a couple running around near you, if anyone’s willing to sell them! (they’re known as the “million kilometer engine” Mercedes, and 1985 is the last year they made this kind of engine) Congrats also on the safe arrival of Nikita! Blessings to you and the whole church family there in Kagarlyk :)
